All Stars of the Outdoor Fitness Unit!

This is a late post so forgive me!

The 9-3 all star of the unit for fitness goes to .... Natalie Miller! I observed Natalie doing the circuit each day with intesity, challenging herself and her partner. Very impressive! Keep it up.

The all star of 9-4 was an easy decision this week because this student really stood up above the rest. Bryan Middleton! Brian challenged himself with the circuit and WOW did he do an impressive job. Constantly moving at each station for a minute, properly executing the exercises and being self motivated. I was so impressed Bryan! Great work.

All the all stars for Outdoor Fitness will be added to the draw for the grand prize at the end. Stay tuned for the Volleyball/Basketball All Stars, next week!

All Stars of the Football Unit!

I am proud to announce that the all star from 9-3 is Kelsey McNally. Kelsey did such a fantastic job at learning the rules of football and applying them. Not only did she have a fantastic attitude she, she also ended up scoring the majority of the points - regardless of what team she was on. I was impressed with her ability to be a leader in this unit and I always appreciate a girl who is always smiling! Awesome job girl!

In 9-4 I am giong to give the all star to Tess Mills. Tess absolutely stood out in this unit as a girl who was willing to get her hands dirty. I saw her learning and applying the rules, jumping into positions that she had never tried before and do a great job of running the ball up the field (even if she screamed the whole way). Tess your boldness and individuality is to be admired! Great job!

As we enter the Outdoor Fitness Unit I am counting on you all (9-3 and 9-4's) to continue to be leaders amoung your other peers as we combine classes. Name: __________________

Goal: to analyze and monitor our physical activity over the course of one semester in order to improve our activity level, using frequency, intensity and duration. We want to move more!

What I need to do: daily record the answer to these three questions:
o   The frequency: did I exercise today, if yes what kind of activity did I do? (ex. Soccer practice, walking, rock climbing, swimming, sit-ups, yoga, etc.)
o   The intensity: how hard did my heart work using beats per minute (bpm’s) or the weight in lbs?
o   The duration: how many minutes?

The last thing you need to include is:
o   The date and time!

As a class we will work on the initial goal setting (making SMART goals for our physical activity. SMART means our goals are: specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely!

Please glue or staple this page into the front of your notebook as a reference for your assignment.

Check Point!

Hey Grade 9's!

I am so blessed to be working with such a fantastic group. No offense to the other teachers but I think I got all the Gr. 9 all-stars!

In saying that choosing all-stars of the week proved to be difficult.

In 9-3 I would like to congratulate Andrea Walker as the all-star of the week. She ALWAYS has a smile on her face, she works hard and is always adding to the postive atmosphere of our classroom! Congrats Andrea and keep it up!

In 9-4 I would like to congratulate Matt Zaplachinski. He has stood out as someone who is positve, helpful and needs to be commended as the fastest student in grade 9. Very well done Matt. Both your names will be put in the final draw for a grand prize at the end of the semester.

In saying this, all-stars are up for grabs for the outdoor games unit. I am watching very closely for leadership abilities, positive attitudes, overall improvements and the way you are interacting with your peers!

Keep up the hard work 9's, it is not going unnoticed!
